…”Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.”   Our Gospel proclaims the pattern of Jesus’ leadership.  He models servant leadership by the way He served – He loved – He gave – He cared – for everyone.  As Jesus does for us, we are called to lead by the way we serve and care for others.  Parents, for most of us, are great models of the servant leadership of Jesus.  By the way they love and care for their families, they model for us the love and leadership of Christ.  How can each of us reflect deeply on the style of Jesus’ authority and leadership – by the way we serve others and put others first.  As we live this model of leadership, the more our lives will be blessed and our home and community will be filled with great care and compassion.

…If you’ve driven past in the evening, you have noticed how well lit our campus looks.  Thanks to the wonderful servants of our building and grounds volunteers, we have new LED lighting. After months of hard work and effort, the project is now complete.  Many thanks to these good people who serve the Lord and our parish so faithfully.

…This great crew also was amazing this past week as we vacated the sacristy and the front of the Church.  They have been helping Father Rob and our sacristy crew, along with maintenance staff, to make sure everything found a new home and is ready for weekend Masses.  We are so blessed by those who serve so generously.

…As you can see, the Marous team has been working to secure the site as we enter the early phases of demolition and staging to begin repairing and renovating the Church.  Last weekend’s groundbreaking and cornerstone service with Father Carlin was very beautiful.  Many thanks to those who have taken the time to write the names of their loved ones on the ribbons placed on the construction fence.  The Marous Team, in our weekly meeting, was inspired by this simple/sincere gesture.  All of us are living stones in the Church.  How can we use this important effort for our community to renew our commitment to strengthen the bonds of faith and family – to be the Church of Christ?

…With the closing of the front entry, we have installed a new door off the north side of the Church facing the school and front of Hilkert Hall.  We have also removed some pews to open up the aisles to make sure that everyone is comfortable and safe.   Thanks for your understanding and cooperation during construction.

…As we walk into the Fall season, there are wonderful events for all of us to come together to enjoy great friendship, good food and fun!!!  This Saturday our K of C are hosting our annual Steak Roast.  The Autumn Harvest Festival is set for Saturday, October 6.  Ramserfest (complete with a Polka Mass) takes place on Saturday, October 20.   Make plans to join in these wonderful Fall events.

…If you are looking for some ways to ‘serve’, please join us on Saturday, October 13 for our outreach to the City of Cleveland’s ALPHA Village.  We will be working from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm in the neighborhoods surrounding our sister parish, Saint Rocco’s (Fulton Road).  We could use your help.  For details, or to sign up, contact Catherine at crainey@StAmbrose.us.

…Last year we were blessed to collect and distribute almost 2000 winter jackets in this community.  We will be collecting coats again this year.  Please bring your gently used (or new) coats/jackets to the doors of the Church.  We will make sure they get to those who most need them.

…One of our members, Dobie Moser, is the head of the Youth and Young Adult/CYO Office for the Diocese.  We have asked him to lead us in a conversation about the sex abuse crisis in the Church this coming Tuesday, September 25 at 7 pm in the Mother Teresa Room.   We need to walk together through this crisis to healing and hope for our future.  Please join us.

…This Sunday night our Music Ministry has the great privilege of singing the National Anthem at the Cleveland Indians game.   We are so blessed by those who serve our community and lead us in music and song.  Matt Fodor and Helen Lanzarotta have been working hard to get our music ministry up and running for the new pastoral year.   Max Menkhaus has been working hard to grow the music ministry for the Saturday 4:30 pm Mass along with the Sunday 5 pm Mass.  They would love to have you join them in any of our music programs (bells too!!).  For more information or to sign up, contact Helen at hlanzarotta@StAmbrose.us.

…We’ve started an Addiction Support Group for those who have family members dealing with the grip of addictions.   It’s a comfortable and meaningful way to offer help, hope and support.  You are not alone.  We are never alone.  With God’s grace, and the help of the family of God, we can walk together to the hope of a better day.  For more information, please contact Lisa at lhomady@StAmbrose.us.

…This past week you should have received your Parish Stewardship Directory.  It’s filled with wonderful ways you can both grow spiritually and serve the Lord.  Please take some time to look through the programs, ministries, and opportunities that are taking place in our community.  Imagine if all of us simply found one way to ‘serve’ in the spirit of Jesus in our parish community.  All of us have gifts and talents.  All of us are called to serve in the ways of the Lord.  Please prayerfully consider how best you can help, give and grow for the Lord and our parish.

…God bless you for all the ways you serve the Lord in our community.  May God bless you and our efforts together to build a better world in the spirit of Jesus Christ.  Have a great week.
