Stations of the Cross

Every Friday during Lent at 7:30 pm

The 14 Stations of the Cross commemorate Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The 14 devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of His last day, beginning with His condemnation. The stations are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as you move from station to station. At each station, recall and meditate on that event from Christ's last day. Recite the prayer that goes along with each station and move forward until you complete all 14 stations.

Understanding the Purpose of Lent

Purpose of Lent –

  • 40 in the Bible represents trial or suffering or a long time of training or testing.
  • Purification – What is still in my life that can't be in my life if I'm going to follow Jesus? I need to be purified of that.
  • Enlightenment – I need to take steps to follow Jesus and conform my life after His. How can I use this time in me to make me the person He wants me to be. How does giving up chocolate make me a saint? Or does it?

Pick one thing in these three areas and be intentional about it:

  • Prayer
  • Fast – The church only asks us to fast on 2 days: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. A fast is about what will conform our heart to Jesus. What kind of fast do I need in my life? It doesn't have to have anything to do with food. What is keeping me from being present? So consider this in addition to the fast the Church asks of us.
    • Picking something to give up or fast from should not be arbitrary and unnecessary (it is not causing you a problem or getting in the way of the Lord). Choose a Lenten penance that grows out of a need of where God wants you to grow.
  • Almsgiving – how can I allow God to use me to bless others? It could be time, money, or writing a note or making a call each day. Pick 40 people who need to hear from you and do 1 each day of Lent.

Men's Fellowship

2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 7:00pm – 8:30pm at Lehner Center-McGiveny (Use side door for entrance)

Men's Fellowship is based on a series of topics on how to be a Catholic Man in the World today. This is not a Bible study, but discussions that are focused mainly on issues of concern to men in the ordinariness of their everyday lives. The series is firmly rooted in Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. These sessions cultivate fun and build friendships within the community. We learn from one another how to be a better husband, father, son and a single adult.

Contact Deacon Tom Sheridan for information or watch the bulletin for details. TSheridan@StAmbrose.us

Lent Small Group Studies Registration

As we enter the sacred season of Lent, we are invited to pause, reflect, and deepen our relationship with Christ through prayer, fasting, and acts of mercy. This time of spiritual preparation helps us walk with Jesus through His suffering, death, and resurrection, opening our hearts to the gift of new life in Him. Use the flip book below to guide your journey this Lent — may it strengthen your faith, inspire your devotion, and draw you closer to the love of God.

People of God, see the morning is new Rise from your sleeping and run to the tomb
Come and see! Come and see! He is alive! A grave that is empty, a promise fulfilled
God who was with us is here with us still He is here! He is here! He is alive!

Alleluia! Love is alive
Conquered the grave and defeated the night
Alleluia! Love is alive!
The Son has arisen for all Your people sing alleluia!
