Becoming a Sponsor

What an honor to be asked to serve as a Sponsor!

Congratulations on this most important role in your loved one's journey to the altar. You have been asked to be someone your loved one can look up to as a Brother or Sister in Christ that lives a Catholic life and is committed to being a sponsor. In this duty, we ask that you commit to:

  • Pray on a regular basis for and with your loved one, leading by example
  • When possible, attend sessions, retreats, and special liturgies with your loved one
  • Give a meaningful and intentional relationship with your loved one as their relationship with God grows
  • Being involved in the life of your loved one in our Church on a regular basis
  • Encourage your loved one to participate in the church on a weekly basis and get involved with other ministries
  • Inspire your loved one to continue their catechesis through sharing books and articles about the Catholic faith, as well as encouraging them to ask questions to deepen their understanding of the faith
  • Help them to give witness to the Lord in the world, fulfilling the Baptism promises they have made or will make by using their gifts from the Holy Spirit

Sponsor Requirements

Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing

Have received all three Sacraments of Initiation

Be at least 16 years old

Congratulations on being asked to sponsor someone along their faith journey! What an honor to help establish, grow, and be a witness to someone's relationship with God. We are here to help you do all you can to uphold your commitment to this privilege.

If you have any questions, concerns, or especially, if your parish records are out-of-date, please contact us! We will work with you and your pastor. Once this form is submitted, allow about 4-7 business days to process your request. The Sponsor Certificate will need to be signed by the director before it can be sent to you.

Sponsorship Qualifications

I am a Catholic in good standing and I am a registered and participating member of St. Ambrose. *

I have received the three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation. *

I regularly participate in Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation and join with others in my faith to listen to Jesus Christ by receiving him in Holy Communion. *

I am living my Christian vocation as a single person, a validly married person, a religious, or clergyman. *

I actively strive to live out my commitment to Christ and to the community life of the Church by living consistent with those with whom I come in contact daily. *

I will help the person whom I am sponsoring to live out the Catholic faith by my prayers and by the Christian example of my daily life. *
