We are part of the universal Church. And, we are called to build up the Body of Christ here, there and across the world. Here are some highlights and updates on the work we are doing to care for our sisters and brothers across the globe.

Last summer we were blessed to meet Fr. Don Bosco and welcome him at our parish. Father Bosco is a priest in the Diocese of Vijayawada, India. We continue to partner with Fr. Bosco and Talitha Cumi Unati (www.tcuindia.com) to keep high school girls in school preventing them from being sold off as a wife or trapped in human trafficking. The efforts have been so effective that Father Bosco and TCU were invited to present at the G-20 summit on Human Rights Issues in April of 2023.

When Fr. Bosco came to Cleveland, we met Meghana. Meghana came to the United States to pursue her college degree and, even more importantly, to be a role model to the other high school girls in her hometown of Vijayawada. Meghana is boasting a 3.4 average at Kent State University and has one more semester to complete her degree in business analytics. God bless Bob and Patrice Downs who have been so helpful and supportive of Meghana. Our prayer is that she will inspire other young women in India to see the hope of a better path for their lives through faith, family and education.

Our mission outreach in the Dominican Republic continues to do great work to care for about 135 families. We are excited to send our first full mission team to the DR in three years (COVID) in June. This group of mighty missionaries will work to complete five homes along with a long list of community repairs. Watch for pictures and full details of the important work they will do: www.missionpossible.us. In July, we are blessed to partner with MedWish International to lead a Medical Brigade to the poorest outreaches of the Dominican. Please keep these important efforts in your thoughts and prayers.

So many of you have met Amer and Tatiyana. They came to the United States fleeing from the Ukraine back in the late Fall. They, along with their son and Tatiyana’s mother, have settled into their home and are helping at Saint Ambrose. They are awaiting all the necessary paperwork to settle into their working careers (logistics and hair stylist). They love our community and are so grateful for the warm welcome and support they find at Saint Ambrose.

As you have been reading, we are ready to welcome another family from the Ukraine in early June. Soon you will meet Andrii, Viktoriia, Arsenii, Kyrylo, and Ernest. We are looking for some members who can assist them in their transition into the United States (e.g. show them where/how to shop, making them a meal, etc.). If you want to learn more or sign up to help, please contact Father Bob (frbob@StAmbrose.us).

In the final weeks of May, our parish community and our Outreach Team were blessed to set up homes for another 10 families who have arrived in Northeast Ohio. They come fleeing difficult situations in their homelands. They come looking for safety and the hope of a better life. Many thanks to our outreach team and to all who have offered/donated gently used furniture and financial support to help us turn a house into a home for those who are new to our community.

Jesus says, over and again, “What you do for the least, you do for me.” And in other ways, “When I was a stranger, you welcomed me.”

God bless you for all your goodness as we work together to create a more loving and caring world in the spirit of Jesus Christ.
