Baptism

"LET THE CHILDREN COME TO ME"

Baptism

Baptism welcomes your child as a member of our faith-filled Catholic family. Our relationship with God begins in the waters of Baptism. It is the cornerstone of our Catholic faith. As parents, we support, nurture, and help grow our children’s relationship with God. God’s promise of heaven is declared in Baptism. By continually bringing our children to the Table of the Lord and showing them a Christ-centered life, we begin that faith-filled journey to heaven.

Monthly Baptism Class

Saint Ambrose offers Baptism classes every month on a select Wednesday at 6:30 pm. Parents are required to attend the class before their first child is baptized.

Godparents are an essential part of your child’s faith. We encourage them to attend the class with you. Godparents should be people who are good, patient, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic witnesses of the Catholic faith to help support you and your child in their faith journey. One parent must be a practicing Catholic and a registered parishioner of Saint Ambrose.

Guidelines

Godparents

Choosing godparents is an important decision. The Code of Canon Law sets the qualifications for godparents:

  • A godparent must be at least 16 years of age.
  • A godparent must be a fully initiated Catholic who has received all three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation.
  • If married, a godparent must be in a marriage recognized by the Catholic Church (either married in the Catholic Church or had their civil marriage blessed by the Church).
  • A godparent who is a member of another parish must provide a sponsor certificate (letter of good standing) from their pastor.
  • Christian witnesses (baptized non-Catholics) may serve alongside a Catholic godparent but cannot be the sole sponsor.
