There is an international crisis of drug overdose.
Over the last twenty years drug overdose deaths have increased significantly in many parts of the world. In 2023, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention yielded an estimate of 105,303 drug overdose deaths in the United States.
At Saint Ambrose Parish, the urgency to the fight addiction and overdose crisis is a daily priority. Our CARE and Compassion Team have many community connections and resources for anyone who is impacted by substance abuse and/or overdose.
Join us today, and every day, as we pray as a community for all those struggling with addictions, for those lives that have been lost to overdose, and for all the family members and loved ones of an addict.
One of the most critical steps for any family dealing with addiction is a family support group. Addiction does not just impact the addict, its effect runs through parents and siblings alike, leaving long lasting and deeply impactful scars.
Here in Medina County, ROBBY’S VOICE offers FAMILY MATTERS, a family support group that provides families a safe environment to gather, share, support and grow as we travel the path of addiction. Family Matters meets every Monday at 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at the Montville Police Department/Community Center. Meeting updates/Zoom links are also available online or on Facebook.

International Overdose Awareness Day observed annually on August 31 is a stark reminder of the harm that drugs inflict on our society. It is a day to remember those who have fallen victims to overdose as well as those who have come out of the dark hole victorious with the help of loved ones. International Overdose Awareness Day also aims to reduce the stigma attached to the issue, most of which is faced by the families of the victims. August 31 is the day to come out and stand in solidarity in order to reduce future overdose deaths.
