For Immediate Release: Saint Ambrose Parish Unveils Plans for a Symphony Orchestra
June 6, 2021 (BRUNSWICK, OH) – Saint Ambrose Catholic Parish will be adding a new ensemble to its already vibrant Music Ministry program, the Saint Ambrose Symphony.
Are you a musician who has missed playing in a large ensemble? Saint Ambrose is offering a new opportunity for musicians who are recovering from the pandemic and are yearning to make music together. The Saint Ambrose Symphony will be an auditioned orchestra for intermediate to advanced musicians of all ages in Medina County. The orchestra will rehearse weekly at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Brunswick beginning in September 2021 and present 2-3 concerts per year which include classical and popular repertoire. An informational session will be held on June 30, at 5:30 pm in our Church. Available positions include section strings (violin, viola, cello, and bass), flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, and harp. All instrumentalists will perform a solo piece, under two minutes in length that demonstrates the musician’s finest playing abilities. Musicians do have the option of choosing excerpts from OMEA or other orchestras to play. Additional requirements for each of the groups are outlined as follows:
Strings, Woodwinds, and Brass Instruments | Percussion | Piano | Harp |
· One (1) sharp scale and one (1) flat scale each. Play 2-3 octaves, slurred eighth notes, at 60= the quarter note. | · Solo up to two (2) minutes in length for mallets and/or snare.
· Snare drum 30” roll going from [pp – ff – pp]. |
· One (1) sharp scale and one (1) flat scale of 3 octaves using two hands. Play sixteenth notes at 60= quarter note. | · One etude from standard harp literature. |
